February 2005 was warm, almost shirtsleeve weather in Victoria BC. Roses and other plants broke dormancy early. In prior years the precocious plants usually got nipped back by a cold snap in March (see This isn't California), but this year March, while gloomy, never went below freezing. The plants got a running start on Spring, and we had daffodils, tulips and roses blooming at the same time. We started deadheading roses in April.

Perhaps as a consequence, the volume of bloom this year is the heaviest in recent memory. This slideshow shows some of the profusion of flowers from this year.
