Every September, the wholesale horticultural industry in Western Canada holds its annual trade show at the Canada Place convention centre in Vancouver. This year's show was on Sept. 8 and 9. Trevor Inkpen was at the show showing off the Canadial Nursery Landscape Association Web site, and brought back these pictures. Click on the pictures to see a large photo. Vancouver Belle is an introduction that will start selling next year, and the grower wouldn't part with so much as a twig of it, because every one of the existing plants is needed for propogating new stock. Also from Select Roses is Sandalwood, a russet brown miniature similar in colour to Teddy Bear, but with longer, pointed petals.
The theme of the CanWest show this year was "Way Out West", with pioneer / cowboy motifs all over.
These trade shows are where your local garden center owners and buyers meet with the wholesale growers and suppliers, and make their arrangements for the plants and products that you'll see next spring in your local nursery.
